It is useful for checking uptime during routine work or troubleshooting without opening system tools.

Windows Elapsed Running Time is a compact utility for checking how long a Windows session has been active. It is suited to users who want a quick view of system uptime without opening system tools or keeping a larger monitoring application on the desktop. The program displays the time elapsed since Windows started, making it easy to distinguish a recently restarted computer from one that has been running for days.

Its small interface is designed to stay out of the way while remaining readable. An always-on-top option keeps the elapsed-time display visible above other windows, which can be useful when working across applications or monitoring a computer over an extended session. The display can therefore serve as a simple desktop reference rather than requiring repeated checks through menus.

The utility can also show elapsed days and hours in its taskbar icon. This provides a compact uptime indicator when the main window is not being watched, while the window itself offers a more direct view. Together, these options accommodate users who prefer either a persistent on-screen display or a glance at the taskbar.

Typical uses include checking how long a workstation has been running, confirming whether a restart has taken place, and keeping track of uptime during troubleshooting or routine maintenance. It reports elapsed time rather than system performance or hardware health, so it is intended as a focused status tool rather than a comprehensive system monitor.

Windows Elapsed Running Time is portable freeware from AMPSoft. Its small footprint and portable design suit occasional checks as well as leaving the utility open during a work session. It supports Windows editions from XP through Windows 10, including 64-bit editions where listed, and is a practical fit for Windows 7 users seeking a minimal uptime display.
