IE DownloadHelper is a Windows utility for retrieving video and audio from webpages and converting saved media into a preferred format. It is intended for users who want local copies for later playback or to use with other media software. The freeware tool is suited to simple media-saving tasks, with use intended for free download sites and subject to copyright restrictions.

IE DownloadHelper is a Windows utility for saving video and audio found on webpages. It is aimed at people who want to keep online media for later playback or convert it into a format suited to their devices and media software. Its focus is straightforward media retrieval rather than general file management.

The program can retrieve both video and audio from webpages. When suitable media is available, users can use the tool to save a copy locally instead of relying only on playback in the browser. The utility also converts media into a preferred format, which can help make a saved file usable in other players or easier to organize alongside an existing media collection. The supported formats and conversion settings depend on the program's available options.

A typical workflow is to visit a page containing the media, use IE DownloadHelper to retrieve the item, and convert the result if a different format is needed. Keeping retrieval and conversion in one utility can reduce the need to handle those tasks in separate applications. It is intended for media available through free download sites, rather than as a way to bypass restrictions on protected content.

The utility is freeware and is intended for Windows systems, including Windows 7. As with any media downloader, availability can vary from site to site, and users should respect copyright and the terms governing the content they access. It is most suitable for people who need a simple way to save and convert webpage audio or video, not for users seeking a full-featured download manager.
