desktopPet is an open-source Windows app for placing up to 16 sheep on the desktop, inspired by eSheep. It runs on 32/64-bit Windows 7, 8 and 10, and Windows 11, with no special requirements, and can run as a portable app. Its taskbar icon can add sheep, open Options, or install it. Sheep roam Explorer windows, can be moved or dropped, and behave randomly; users can add pets, toggle sounds, and set the flock size.

desktopPet is an open-source desktop application developed by Adriano Petrucci. It is a replica of eSheep, also known as Stray Sheep, a 1995 project by Tatsutoshi Nomura that placed pet sheep on the computer desktop. The original was a 16-bit application, so it could not run on Windows versions above Windows XP. desktopPet is intended for users who want sheep on their desktop, including those familiar with the original eSheep or Stray Sheep. It runs on Windows 11, Windows 10 32/64-bit, Windows 8 32/64-bit, and Windows 7 32/64-bit. Version 1.5.0 is open source.

The application has no special requirements. It can be installed or run directly from its executable file as a portable app. It integrates with the taskbar. Right-clicking its icon allows the user to add sheep, access the Options menu, and install the application.

desktopPet supports up to 16 sheep on the desktop. Sheep can be moved around, made to walk on any Explorer window, or dropped from any height using the cursor. Sheep behavior is randomly generated; for example, a sheep may eat a flower or take a flaming dive in a bathtub. Sheep may occasionally be abducted by aliens. From the Options section, users can add new pets, enable or disable sounds, and choose the total number of sheep in the flock.
