Plant Base is intended to be a straightforward plant encyclopedia database and all its features are focused on this. The emphasis of the application design is on a functional, no-nonsense approach to usability and considerable flexibility. Plant Base is usually installed entirely on the PC's hard-drive, so a CD is not required at run time. For systems with limited disk space, the plant pictures can be read directly from the CD, but it is not the recommended option.

Each plant is described within the database by a large number of standard elements such as size and colour, accompanied by text notes and pictures. Plants may be found or browsed by name or located by powerful search selection criteria. Plant varieties are alphabetically sequenced by botanical name (Latin, binomial), but can be located by their common name if preferred. There is also allowance for alternative names (synonyms).

The plant data is fully editable by the user and can build to create a personal plant information resource. In fact, whilst we supply Plant Base with thousands of plant records and pictures, you may optionally install with an empty database to start with and then build your own choice of plant information and images. In this way Deeproot Plant Base is adaptable to specific needs, from providing occasional general purpose reference to cataloguing a specialist plant collection.

Revised main user interface, which is now an SDI window instead of the previous MDI window. The old quot;child windowsquot; are replaced with re-sizable quot;panesquot;, separated by vertical and horizonal splitter bars. The primary pane is tabbed to give quick access to the major screens. Plant Master now has 2 alternative views - a page view that replaces the old quot;all notesquot; window, plus the previous data view. Menus and command buttons have been somewhat simplified. Command buttons for the most common functions are now placed on the left-hand menu panel. All screen resolutions now use the same window layout, with adjustments for size. There are numerous detail changes, but all basic functions remain as before.
