What these algorithms do is make multiple passes over the data to be deleted with bits of 0s or 1s, either sequentially or randomly so as to overwrite the concerned data. In a system’s hard disk, overwriting data is the only way of removing its existence completely and making it irrecoverable. This way, all types of files and folder, recycle bin contents, temporary files, Internet temporary files, Internet cookies and even the registry entries can be removed beyond of the point of recovery.
